All HRT buses, trolleys and ferries are equipped with electronic fareboxes. Fareboxes will accept cash, coins and HRT magnetic-stripe farecards. We cannot make change so please have exact fare when boarding. HRT Farecards are an excellent way to save time and money. Most of the farecards are discounted so they save you money! And you won’t have to remember to bring change! But remember to use them quickly as they expire within a year. Select a transportation service below to view the fare information.

Transportation for Everyone

Seniors and Persons with Disabilities. — It is the policy of the Government that elderly individuals and individuals with disabilities have the same right as other individuals to use public transportation service and facilities. Special efforts shall be made in planning and designing public transportation service and facilities to ensure that public transportation can be used by elderly individuals and individuals with disabilities. All programs of the Government assisting public transportation shall carry out this policy.

Seniors and Persons with Disabilities means those individuals who, by reason of illness, injury, age, congenital malfunction, or other permanent or temporary incapacity or disability, including those who are non-ambulatory wheelchair-bound and those with semi-ambulatory capabilities, are unable without special facilities or special planning or design to utilize mass transportation facilities and services as effectively as persons who are not so affected.

Qualifying for HRT Half Fare ID Card

Senior citizens (age 60 and over) and people with disabilities who have a valid HRT Half Fare ID card, HRT ADA Certification card or a valid Medicare card and photo identification are eligible to pay half fare on HRT’s fixed route services. Additionally, Seniors and Persons with Disabilities may take advantage of HRT’s 30 Day Senior and Persons with Disabilities farecards.

HRT Senior and Persons with Disability ID Application

The HRT Half Fare ID card is $5.00. Applications are available from the any of our HRT customer service locations, by sending a request to HRT, Attn: Customer Service, 3400 Victoria Blvd., Hampton, VA 23661 or calling (757)222-6000 and requesting an application be mailed to you. ID cards are issued at HRT headquarters or at designated regional locations. Please call for more information.

Fare Policy

Hampton Roads Transit has recently adopted a new fare policy to establish guidelines for setting or restructuring fares.
