Philip Shucet

Philip Shucet is the president/CEO of Hampton Roads Transit.

Mr. Shucet’s transportation career began almost 40 years ago at the West Virginia Department of Highways and later with the Arizona Department of Transportation. His interest in the private sector lead Mr. Shucet to the Michael Baker Corp., a Pittsburgh-headquartered engineering firm. He was assigned to Baker’s Transportation Business Unit. He later became president of two business units, Baker Environmental and Baker Mellon Stuart.

In 2002 Mr. Shucet was appointed Commissioner of the Virginia Department of Transportation. In his three-year tenure, he lead reform efforts that helped VDOT redirect its energies in a climate of declining public investment while energizing political support with demands for on-time – on-budget performance. His “Project Dashboard,” an online accounting of the agency’s construction and financial performance, won industry awards.
